What is Digital Citizenship?

Digital Citizenship is an important concept to teach and instill in your students, as they will be spending on the Internet. Digital Citizenship is the standard and rules that one must follow to act appropriately when using technology. Being a good digital citizen involves email etiquette, reporting and preventing cyber bullying and learning how to protect information.

Teaching students how to become good digital citizens should be something that educators implement into their curriculum. Not only is it important to teach students email etiquette, how to prevent cyber bullying etc. It is also important that students understand what it means to have a digital footprint. A digital footprint is the information left behind as a result of a user's web browsing.

Here are a few rules and responsibilities for students:

  • Follow all classroom rules for using technology
  • Act responsibly online
  • Collaborate in positive ways that help you learn
  • Use technology to support an inclusive school community
